This is a simple reply from a great member of the Navy, Capt Larry Schaffer. (USN)Ret
Just a brief but very emphatic "thank you" for your selfless efforts in
making my retirement ceremony at the Naval Academy on 9 October a truly
memorable occasion. It was a perfect capstone to a long and most ejoyable
career. For those of you who have a part in making possible the magnificent sea chest/shadow box that was presented to me at the ceremony. To say that I was overwhelmed would be an understatement. Of course, what impressed me most were the personal time, effort and warm
sentiments behind such a wonderful gift. The shadow box certainly is far too
grand for a simple sailor who just happened to spend most of his life doing
what he loved most; i.e., being a sailor. In any case, I wish to express my
deep appreciation to you all for your special support and contribution.
Additionally, I enjoyed all the gracious letters which now are a permanent part of
my "memory book" that my daughters compiled. My daughters wrote that
"Memories live longer than dreams." That could not be truer in my case. My
fond memories of the Navy and the marvelous friends and shipmates with whom I
served will long be savored and enjoyed in the years to come.
Thanks again for helping to make my last day in the Navy one of my
happiest memories! Cheers, and best wishes. Larry Schaffer, CAPT,
USN(Ret)
