Comments:Hi Everyone! I signed the dreambook many moons ago and I just decided to come back to look up Julio Cruz and sign the guestbook (update email). I'm sure out of the Navy now. Julio did move to NC last I heard. If anyone knows where he is and can contact him, please tell him I'm trying to get in touch with him. I was a CTA3 in Edzell from 1990 to 1993. I'm now out of the Navy since 1996 and live in the DC metro area. If you remember me, email me, and let's catch up. I'm recently divorced and have two beautiful kids. Austin is 5 and Alexis will be 4 in Sept this year. I work in the Security field and love it. I do stay in touch with some former CT's and they are in this area as well. It is such a small community if you think about it. Crostoma

Anybody remember the Tally Ho Bar ? I was back in Scottland in 2000. The people were just as friendly as they were when I was stationed their. Anybody remember Lt. Rose ? Comments:Hello Mates, My name is Roger R Russell. I served in Edzell from February ( something ) 1961 untill March ( sometime ) 1963 . Like many of you, I truly fell in love with Scotland , and all that was there, including my duties. It was truly some of the best years of my life. I spent much of my time there working directly for C P O Earl Long. My Department Officer was Lt Jg Frank Latell , and , when I first arrived our C O was captain Lehman. What a character. He was a great C O . He brings to mind Lt. Col. Henry Blake of " Mash " fame. He often wore a leather jacket , and at times a felt hat with a feather in it. But make no mistake, he was no captain to trifel with. If you got into a bit of ( shall we say, difficulty ) in town or at the base, he had a way of looking at you , and demanding the whole story. Do any of you know the location of the following people that served at Edzell ? Donald Raymond Anderson From Florida, Pall Furtato , From Road Island , Jim Manuael, From New Jersey, Max Elford, From Michigan, Jim Summers, from Alaba ma, Chief Earl Long , from Tennessee ? I would appreciate any information that you may have. My wife , son and I visited Edzell in May 2005, and , hope to return this year. We looked up a dear old friend of mine who worked at the base , Willie Milne. I'm sure many of you remember Willie. Heck of a guy. He is doing great, and is now approaching 91 years old, walks like a man in good health at 40 years. Willie and I correspond fairly often. It was great to see Edzell again. It really hasn't changed much, thank God. It's kind of like " Brigadoon " No Mc Donnalds, just the " Home I remembered, and returned to. I would like to hear from any of you in respect to the Edzell Reunion, or whatever. My mailing address is Roger Russell 5910 Forest Beach Dr. Richland, Mi. 49083 Telephone 1-269-731-5880 Most fond and kind reguards. Roger R Russell.

Moved off base to Broomfield Cottage outside of Brechin. Just down the road from Barrelwell. Married a local lass from Brechin named Helen McArthur. Been back several times to visit family and friends. Went back and celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary also. Had some great times at Jolly's, The Stables, and of course the Tally HO. Loved the golf too. Left Edzell and went to Guam for the rest of my active duty. Got out in 1979. Would like to hear from any SPECOMMER from those days.

After I left last year I'd not been given any updates to the Co B photo album. He was never stationed at Edzell and just can't understand the place it was. So if anyone is still out there looking for a complete copy of the Marine Company B photo album, I have it up until early 2006. Also, I'm still happy to add any photos people have while there to add to it. Credit line is always given.

A great bunch of guys. Does anyone know the whereabouts of a retired Chief Yeoman named Jim Summers. He also married a Montrose girl named Susan who died just a few years after they were married. I know he had two daughters before Susan passed away. I was his bestman when they married and would surely enjoy getting in touch with him again. Edzell was the highlight of my short 5 years in the Navy. I would have stayed 30 years if I could have remained at Edzell. Hope to visit again in about 2 years. As you know the base is closed but the heart strings are tugged at as you drive past the main gate. Would love to hear from anyone who remembers us.

Looking from our back door we could see the rear of BOQ-was nice to roll out of one back door into another. Edie and I have been back to Scotland twice, since I retired in 69, and the last time we toured a desolate and forlorned Edzell. What to a shame to see it now in lieu of the great memories we still cherish of our favorite duty station. Best to all 73' and 88's, as appropriate. Bob

Comments:Hi there. I was the Navy 'Brat' of Harry and Phyllis Massuch. My dad Harry was CWO4 at Public Works, don't know if he's posted here but if he hasn't then I have for him. My dad was originally based at Edzell in the late 60's where he met my mum from Ferryden. They left and then came back in 1984 where my dad was stationed here until '92 when he retired. My dad continued to work at the base for some computer installations co. in the elephant cage until then end. My mum and dad continued to live in Montrose until 2003 when they moved out to Florida. Somehow I got left behind and still live in Montrose with my fiance and 6 year old daughter. I often drive past the base with a tear in my eye and remember what a family it was. I lived on the base until 1986 then we got a house in St Cyrus and then Farnell. I went to dancing with Robina Addison in Montrose and now my daughter goes to her, I'm sure there's others out there who remember Robina. The base was like a second home to me, hanging out at the club, bowling, theatre, roller skating at the annexe, summer hire and I also played in the womens softball team. If anyone remembers my dad Harry or me get in touch.

Too bad you have no clue in life when your 20 years old, or I wouldn't have left after such a short stay. You think the grass is always greener, but nowhere was it as green as in Edzell. Many many fond memories of Edzell. Captain's Cup sports, trips to London to play softball and flag football to represent the base, all the great friends made and remembered. If there is anyone who's interested in a piece of history like this, please send me an e mail. Depending on when you were in Edzell, I could just e mail you photos of the years you were there. Submissions to this are happily accepted and credit lines will be given to all who contribute. Please keep in mind this is nothing spectacular but just the photos from the album. I came across myself as a newly promoted Lance Corporal doing Toys For Tots and it brought back a flood of memories. I'm hoping this will do the same for others. Happy New Year!

After the winter in Dunoon, Captain Demech asked that we relocate to Edzell and open a NIS office on the base. So that we did. I stayed until late October 1985, when I took my three and a "bun in the oven" back stateside, Kansas City to be exact. In Feburary of 1986, I took the four children to D.C. as Tate was assigned to the Navy Yard (NIS) and we lived in Bowie for a short time. I returned to Kansas City, Missouri, where I raised the four children. We have lost touch with their father, almost all together. Our "bun in the oven "Matthew Tate" just celebtated his 21st birthday here in Kansas City on December 22, 2006. I work for the USDA as a chemical analyst (looking for pesticide residues on grain) and am about to celebrate 15 years of service. We have fond memories of our time in Scotland. After about 6 months of barracks life Sam Grey and I rented a cottage on Barrelwell farm, which was about a mile outside of Brechin. While I made many friends there I'm afraid I've lost touch with just about all of them over the past 30 some years. My stay in Scotland was without doubt the best time of my life, despite the usual chicken#@%* that comes with being an enlisted man. Got a local discharge & toured Europe. Comments:Sorry for the double entry. I was stationed at Edzell from June 1969 to December 1970. Worked In 34. Lt Thomas was division officer, Chief Ganow, and Chief Johnson, Charlie, Hub, and Denny were the day ladies. I was not one of the ones to marry a lass while there. I came back after finishing my 4 year stint to get married To a lass from Fife. We were married in June of 1972. I went from a cold shower in Scotland to a hot shower on Okinawa. I did not apprecieate Edzell until I was transfered. Then I had trouble believing that there were several that shipped over in Scotland for immediate transfer back to Okinawa. I hated every minute that I was there. Even took leave and took hops back to Scotland. After the marriage, we returned to Oshkosh, Wi. and I finished my degree in Eduction. No jobs here so we packed up and returned to Fife. Then I found out that I needed to have at least two years of experience teaching in my own country before they would hire me. I did teach at the Ag and horticulture school in Cupar for a term before attending a year at Scottish School of Physical Education in Jordanhill, Glasgow. Got my certificate and guess what...no jobs! The government had determined that the birth rate was down 20 plus percent the year before so they cut educational spending that same percent. Still had no teachers in the class rooms. I brought my 16 month old daughter back to the U.S. and sent for my wife after she repeated the visa nightmare. We have lived in Iowa, Kansas, South Dakota, Nebraska, and now live Back in Iowa. Our daughter is now a Veteranarian in Idaho. Pat and I will celebrate 35 years of Marriage next June. I remember a few names: Gary Something with an orange VW, A hartlieb, Chuck herr, David Phillips, Hub Bartlett, Gary Morella, Chief Dembowski, Chet Chapman... Would love to hear from any of these and any that I have forgot. Great website for a GREAT duty station.

Comments:Had two stints at Edzell: 75-78 and 85-89. Will never forget the amazing Scottish people and that ever so special duty station. I would go back, but would find it hard to take to travel down the Longstrath and see nothing there. As I've read (and have no doubt) not a pebble has moved in Edzell, Brechin, or Montrose. Thank God for that and for the unique and enduring memories he has given me to hold dear. God bless all.

Comments:Thought any one who frequented Jolly's in the "old" days may be interested in the following article. First service at Fellowship's new home BRECHIN Baptist Fellowship enjoyed their first Sunday services in their new home in Clerk Street at the weekend. Over forty people attended the morning services in their new premises in the heart of the city and many stayed for the fellowship dinner which followed. Pastor Jon Bergen commented: "Our theme this year has been 'Come Share the Vision' and so this move to the old Jolly's Hotel is part of the vision we have been working toward this year. "Though there have been the usual challenges, as there are with any move into an old building, things have been slowly but surely coming together. "The music was uplifting anthems of praise to the greatness of God. The message given was about the 'man born blind' from St. John 9. "The picture here is of a life changed by Jesus and a picture of how we can build a Church together if Jesus is the one we get our vision from. "We can then have a changed life and offer the gospel to others so they also can have a better life. This was well received by those present and was an encouragement to the work ahead. "We look forward to the future and the many activities we will be able to have in this building in the years ahead." My husband Jim was stationed at Edzell 73-76 and 86-89. We met in Jolly's Jan 1973 !!!!

Comments:Hi! I have always lived in Montrose, Angus, Scotland, and have very strong connections with Edzell throughout my life. My father is Syd Walker, the well known local landscape artist, who actually designed the RAF Edzell coat of arms, and was commissioned to paint an artist's impression of the base before it was actually built. He actually painted three identical impressions, one of which went to be displayed permanently at the Pentagon. I am also an professional artist, although I specialise in portraits, but my father has a large range of prints of the Montrose/Edzell/Brechin areas which still prove hugely popular. Although he is now retired, only painting for himself, (he turned 80 in January '06), my husband oversees his print business and can ship unframed orders abroad. All prints are signed by Syd Walker. Local views include Edzell Arch, Edzell Castle, Edzell Church, The Gannochy Bridge, Glenesk (various views), The Retreat, Montrose High Street (various views), Montrose Bridge, MOntrose Basin (various views), Montrose Beach, Montrose Steeple - in fact, hundreds of local views. There is also a beautiful Commemorative print of Edzell Base which will shortly be featured on a new page on my website www.kirstenritchiewalker.co.uk Look out for the page, which will be entitled 'Syd Walker prints' My mother, Elizabeth, my Dad, Syd, and my sister Fiona and I all have extremely fond memories of our experiences of the Base. The annual picnics, and all the American friends we met when we shared in the hospitality so kindly and readily offered to us. The cinema, the bowling, the American version of Monopoly, cheesecake, Hershey's chocolate, root beer, the EM club..... We still visit Edzell on a regular basis, and the village has never changed. Would say 'hi' to anyone who remembers us, especially 'Beep' (Alison)!
