| Comments: | I served at Edzell two times 72-75 and 81-84. I retired out of there in 84. Edzell was without doubt the best place I ever served. I scanned through the current guestbook and recognized many names. The base, the country, and the locals will always have a warm spot in my heart. I wish I could be there for the reunion, but am unable to do so. I am sure that it will be a great celebration. Best wishes and best of luck to everyone. Have a wee dram and a pint for me. |

| Comments: | Just wanted to let everyone know (at least those who are interested and care) Sandy and I finally submitted our reservation for the 2002 Edzell Reunion. So all that were there from Aug 1963 - Nov 1966 you've just been given your official warning! Looking forward to seeing all, as well as those we have met since but were not stationed with at RAF Edzell. The last time I golfed in Scotland, I sank a putt from 23 1/2 lengths of the club, out of the rough. I walked off the course and never touched a golf club again; until recently. But no, I will not be doing any divit smoothing, and chasing little white balls around on this trip! See ya in August! Dolie |

| Comments: | date:9/3/02 from:ewalker01@aol.com Greetings from Brechin,on a beautiful sunny Saturday. I had a walk of a few miles North of my home and looked North to the Grampian Mountains and the hills of Wirren and The Bulg, the ancient Pictish Forts of Brown and White Catterthun, where our ancestors the Picts, So Named by the Roman Leader Calgacus as the "Picti" tattooed and painted designs on their bodies with Blue Woad.It is a beautiful sunny morning with just a touch of frost in the valley, and the Hills which look down on U.S.N.Edzell have their White Winter Caps on. Mary and I, both of whom worked at the Base as Nursing Sister in Medical 19 years, and I as Printer for 15 years, abd had many friends on Base, are going to drive up GlenEsk this afternoon and take some pictures, hopefully finding some Red Deer down from the Tops and into GlenEsk and Glen Lethnot feeding from the farmers Turnips and Cabbages etc. Have been looking through the Guest Book and recognise the names of many of our former friends at Edzell. the latest article on "Brechin The Ancient City" our Website, is an article on The Lovat Scouts Regiment during W.W.11. After leaving the Navy in June 1977, I became an auditor for Army Audit for about 2 1/2 years and then with Defense Contract Audit Agency since then. My fondest memories of Seabee Ball celebrations come from Edzell. I intend to attend the reunion so anyone else out there from The Public Works Department from 1994-1997 please saddle up and let us have one more good time. Ok who will be the designated driver or should we just bring a sleeping bag for the park bench. Sandra, if you check this page often tell Dave I said "Hello". |

| Comments: | I just read through some of the entries and found quite a few names that brought back plenty of great memories. I've been with ONI since '86 when I got out of the Navy and live in Alameda, CA helping the Coast Guard develop their intel program in the Pacific. Single again but not minding it too much. It gives me plenty of time for hiking and camping with my pooch. Planning a trip to England, Scotland and Ireland this fall and do plan on spending a couple of days in and around Edzell. Looking forward to stomping around some old ground By the way, the Coast Guard will be hiring more than 25 new civilian intel positions in the coming two years. They'll be on both coasts and include Hawaii and Alaska. There are several GS positions opening this year and next in the Alameda office. If anyone is interested, E-mail me at (jwilkins@d11.uscg.mil). Good Job on the site Tom! |

| Comments: | I have many fond memories of RAF Edzell. I was a CTM(2) or Mat Man in wideband. I played a lot of Football & BBall, and drank a good amount of beer. As did many, went there single but left married to a Scottish lass (from Dundee), named Margaret. Finished college and did a career change into Human Resources Manager right after the Navy. I have worked for the same company for the last 27 yr. Have 2 daughters & 2 grand children. No longer married, but now have a very nice lady friend. I became very fond of golf in my more recent years, and now wish I had followed the advice of a Bill Schmitt who worked for me in Edzell and pleaded with me to get out on the Scottish courses. He was a scratch golfer. Lived in "Unthank house" outside Brechin, and have may good memories of it and the Sheriffs who owned it. This website was truly heart warming. Thanks for setting it up and maintaining it. |

| Comments: | Greetings to all Edzell shipmates! Been reading this for a while and thought it was time to sign-on. Susan and I really enjoyed our two tours at Edzell 72-75 and again 79-82, worked both times in 30Dept Admin but lived out in the country so didn't do much on base stuff, but we did plenty of touring, antique hunting, and played with antique autos (still do!) Finished my career at Fleet Combat Training Ctr, Dam Neck here in Va Beach and now live in Southern Chesapeake. Currently work in Human Resources for Sentara Healthcare doing the civilian counterpart to Navy career counseling. Many fond memories of Edzell and the many friends made there, both on and off base. On a sad note, many Edzell folks (and NSGA Northwest) will remember CTTCM Dean Shank. Dean passed away this past weekend here in Chesapeake. I can't make the reunion but would still like to hear from some of the old color guard and 30 dept folks out there, and have a wee dram for old time sake. Terry |

Mike McMasters, John Ickes, Earl Burton, Bob Hutchison, and many others there to listen to the pipes, drink a dram of single malt and lie to each other about how great we "used" to be! | Comments: | I loved Scotland when I was stationed there with my ex-husband Gary Graham. Two years ago my husband and I went back and stayed in Edzell at the B&B, Dunn House, and had a great time. We did alot of traveling, golfing and eating. Things had changed alot in 30 years but the castles and manor houses were still wonderful. The base looked so deserted but the security did let us on base for a little while to look around at lots of my old memories. I would love to hear from anyone who remembers me. We lived there from 67-69 and then went to Pensacola, Florida. We lived in base housing in Inverbervie and when we went back we could hardly find the old base housing since town had grown so much. Some of my neighbors were Pat & Waylon Goodman, Dan Niezgoda, Phil & Maryann Ryan. Gary is remarried and lives in Cordova, AK and often comes to the Chester, CA area to see our girls . We hope to get to the reunion in 2002. God bless! |

| Comments: | Greetings to all NSGA Edzell alumni! I was at Edzell from September 1968 until April 1970. I was a CTIC in 31 Division(P & R), dayworking alongside the likes of CTIC Don Risinger; CTRC Verne Shrock; CTIC Pat Tabor; CTR2 Ray DuPont; CTCM Jay Dahlgren; SGT.Hinchcliffe, et al. As it was for so many through the years, for me Edzell was a wonderful tour of duty and one of the best in my Navy career. I lived in Montrose on Murray St. at the point just before it widens and becomes High St. The highlight of my time in Scotland was a two-week motoring trip through a large portion of the Highlands in April 1969. Whether or not you shared the same time with me at Edzell, please e-mail me or phone me, 618-937-3992 if you know that you are going to drive through West Frankfort, IL. I am located in Southern Illinois on I-57, twelve miles north of Marion. I'll spring for coffee at a local place called Hungry's(no kidding).Meanwhile, "Here's To!": The fish-and-chip shops; the pubs; the Scottish people; the Scottish scenery; Bobbie Burns Day and haggis; BBC-TV; ITN-TV; and "Coronation Street" on evening telly. Regards, all.....Mike Golio. P.S.: Unlike Tony Bennett, I did not "leave my heart" in the Highlands; however, I did leave both of my lower wisdom teeth in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary! The sodium pentothal was oh-so-great, but next morning's breakfast was not-so-great. (Salt, in cooked cereal?? Come on!!) |

| Comments: | I was stationed at Edzell 71-75 I was a CTO1. it is great to look back at all these entries, it brings back memories. When I was at Edzell I worked at getting away from there to go further my education. Went back to Corry as an instructor did my tour and got out at 10.5 years. Yes I did get my AA while at Corry and finished a degree in Nursing right after that but the great people that I had served with were in my mind and blood and yes I came right back on active duty and did 17 more years as a Nurse Corps officer in the Navy. I retired in 97, in Pensacola where I continue to reside. i found this page through a patient of mine that I recently took care of, he retired in the early 60's as a CT and sent me the the NCVA web page which led me here. I still keep in touch with shipmates from Edzell and now will look up some of the other people that were there that I have lost contact with over the years. GREAT WEB CONNECTION!! Thanks |

Met lots of wonderful folks, and will always carry the fondest of memories about RAF Edzell. Drop me a line sometime...if you remember me. |

| Comments: | Was stationed there from October 1968 thru May 1970. Was a CTOSN when I got there and left as a CTO2. My next duty station was the USS Hancock (CVA-19) from May 1970 to December 1971. I left the Navy as a CTO1 in December 1971 & then joined the Naval Reserve in Des Moines, Iowa from July 1977 to July 1979. They did not have a commstation in Des Moines so I joined the Air National Guard in July 1979 and stayed as a Guard Member until I retired as a MSGT on July 13, 1997. Total years in service to my country: 23 years, 9 months and 24 days. And I would do it again if I could. |

| Comments: | I have lost contact with a good friend from many years ago. His name was Tom Olsen. He was based at the RAF Edzell between 1978 - 1982 approx. He was duted to the submarine section. He lived outside the base for a while on a farm called Vayne. Tom was in the Tug-of-war team and loved a beer and his food. He went back to California and kept in touch till around 1988. I have been trying to trace him down with no luck. Tom would be about 45 years old now. He also drank in the Finavon Hotel and Central in Edzell. I was lucky enough to be invited to Thank given in the base while he was living here, those icecreams were huge! Tom also lived with our family up Glen Lethnet, outside Edzell. He became like a son to my mom and a brother to me and my brothers. If anyone can help, I would be so grateful |

| Comments: | Great page keep up the good work. Seen a few folks that were there when I was. Been a real long time, but times there at Edzell are not forgotten. I was a CTA that worked in the Admin building for a bit then got transed to the dungeon of the SSO for the rest of my time there where I worked with Bruce Wafe, Ken Daniels, Will Shilling and for a time Jason Alexander. Had plenty of good times there, some bad though. This was my only tour, got out and headed to Tucson, AZ for college. Held many different jobs in the IT field working for local colleges in Tucson and even for Honeywell in Phoenix and a short time at the Sheriff's Dept in Flagstaff, AZ. Now I am working for the Forest Service at the Rocky Mountian Research Station here in Moscow, ID. Actually if you all remember Bill Toxvard the "A" Brancher out at WIZ during those years he is here with me also. Though he is pursuing his Doctorate here at the University of Idaho where as I am trying to complete my Masters. I've been happily married to Stella my wife of the past four years and our son Jonathan will be graduating from High School in May of 2003. Life is good here in the Northland, would love to hear from any of you who remember me. PEACE! |

| Comments: | There is just no place better than Edzell. I worked in traffic in the back of the building. John Ogren was our division officer and basketball coach. I was the team manager. Honk Melling, Jim G, Peewee Pegues, TJ Lydell, and names I can't recall after 33 years were on the team. I bought an MGB there and took it to Kamiseya and then to Bremerhaven where I sold it. Big Mistake. I finally found one 33 years later and it is sitting in my garage. Hope I can get there this Aug. |

Would love to hear from or of Betty in Chaplain MacGonigle's office; Evelyn Curry in Special Seives; Chief Davis from I&E; Chief Heitzinger from the Petty Officer School; or anyone else from that time period. We had the first group to participate in the Braemar Games; the first 4th of July celebration; the start of the University of Maryland college program; the first organized softball team(bright red uniforms); and even started a little league baseball team. | Comments: | Arrived in Edzell after spending a year at the Naval Security Group Activity at Kodiak, Alaska. (Cape Chiniak - closed two years after I left and moved to Achorage). After a few months I had seen all that Montrose, Stonehaven and Edzell had to offer. My good pals (Peewee Peques and Sylvester Cheeves) an I would take the train to Edinborough after the last mid watch. We were standing two eves, two days and two mids followed by a 72 hour break. We would return in time to make the first eve watch. We used to party with local girls and some U. S. Air Force guys from Kirknewton Air Base, before they all got shipped out to Turkey. I was an HFDF "R" brancher. CT2. During the summer of 65 a few of us toured the country in a Volkswagen caravan visiting Inverness, Skye, and Sterling. This was my best tour of duty. |

| Comments: | Since running across this site a couple of days ago, I have been trying to decide if I could dredge up enough info from my fading memory to post. Here goes: I was a CT3 working in 32/34 Division and played basketball on the base team. My wife, Ronna, and I lived in Montrose for 6 months and then moved outside of Brechin. The only names I remember are Harry Stordahl (unforgettable!), Terry Rowe, and Neil Bonyer. After leaving active service in late 1973, I used the GI Bill to fund my graduate degree. I have been working at Sandia National Labs for the last 24 years. |

Being an electrician is really fun. It can be a shocking experience and could light up my life if I let it. Karen still works Wal-Mart. Danny devlin, I can't believe you let you boy join the navy and then become a "CT". You know what kind of people they are and can be. Just kidding. It is great that he did that. I cant believe he is that old.I does not seem like that much time slipped by. Well I took up enough room here so I say Merry Christmas and Happy New Years to everyone. | Comments: | Hey, DUHHHHHHHHH, thought the reunion was this past August so made a trip up to Edzell. I was lucky to be driving by the base, pulled into the new gate, saw the caretaker and was granted entrance! SHOCK.....new barracks attached to Campbell Hall....the marine barracks were no longer (about time that building fell down hehehe). Could not drive out to the site though. But looked the same. Stayed in Montrose at the Links Hotel.....outstanding service as always. For all those TURTLES out there, the "Tally-Ho" is now an ABBY National Bank! I know you guys are taking this news hard but try to maintain composure (hey, all the other pubs are still there)! Since I work for Delta Air Lines I/ll be able to fly back next August and hope to visit with all that attend the festivities!!!!! |

My other son Conor, who was born in Cheltenham, England, is 12 and hanging around for a while longer. I'm working here in Hudson, NH at BAE Systems (ex-Sanders) with Mike O'Connor. I'm traveling up to six months a year, mostly to England, Australia, and parts of the U.S. and have had the opportunity to visit Edzell on a couple of occasions. We are planning on attending the reunion in Edzell. I'm hoping that Jim Zmyslo, Kevin Young, Leo McDowell, Carolyn, CJ, Larry Neth, Steve Fry and others are planning on being there too. We went back last year to visit Elaine's family and stopped up to see the new Edzell Woods estate. Brought back memories of the good old bad old days. Still crazy after all these years I guess. |

It's really a great job, guys, that you've done with this site! I hold Edzell very fondly in my heart. For one thing, it was the only place on Earth where I've lived without being assaulted by allergies. I remember the sailors and (mostly) Marines in my watch section. The men with whom I went to sea. The ships and the trips. The boys on base who literally fought to have a Scout troop, and the accomplishments of those young men. Cairn O' Mount. Hiking to Shakin Brig after an Eve watch with no flashlight. I do hope to be with those who reunite in 2002, and I do wish all the very best. |

| Comments: | I was stationed at Edzell all of 1967. Really had a wonderful year there. The work was challenging, the people were all nice, and we had great times at the club on the weekends, traveling the country side, meeting the nice people of Edzell, Montrose, etc. and playing golf at all the world famous courses. I was a "T" brancher. I played volleyball, softball, and was member of the championship football team that year. I left the service at the end of '67, went to work at the Texaco Refinery in Convent, LA, about 10 miles from where I live, in St. Amant. I will be retiring on Dec 31st after 34 years of employement. My bride (of 29 years) and I plan on having a long and happy retirement. If you were in Edzell during this time and would like to compare memories, please email. Take care and God Bless. Randy! |

| Comments: | Wow...I have so many great memories of Edzell. I miss it. I run into a few people now and again since I am now a civilian contractor for the Navy. I work at SPAWAR SYSTEM CENTER Charleston, South Carolina. It's a great job. I do web design and Fleet support. I also dabble in programming(mostly JAVA). Well I would love to hear from you all. It be great to sit back and talk about the good ol' days in Edzell. Take Care. |

| Comments: | Had the best time of my Naval career there. Met HM3 Cindy Taylor while visiting medical for a sore back. We eventually married on base at the chapel, and held the reception at the newly renovated Enlisted Club. Have fond memeories of the base and the people there. Maybe some remember the Fearsome Foursome of Chris Biddix, Mike "Majik" Majiyack, Ron Jenks and myself. Others too numerous to name were the best of friends as well. We have missed the good times, TA! |

| Comments: | What a great site. Like my son, Lynn, it brought back some wonderful memories - the birth of my youngest at Lakenheath, feeding the swans on Loch Wee and playing tennis in an old aircraft hangar. Not to mention breaking an arm in the women's softball games, and a fire in the house. We still keep in touch with some from Edsel, including a few Scottish friends, but it would be great to go back (in time, too) and visit. The big old cat, part Scottish Wild Cat died at age 19 on Guam after making friends all over the world. |

| Comments: | Hey, Haggis'! Yes, I was one of the few the proud the drunk Marines of Co. B. I see many familiar names here, but can't quite remember all the faces. For thos of you with equally foggy memories I worked in the comm. center in bldg. 300, and was the comm. op. at WIZ. Anyone ever notice that most stories from Scotland begin with, "One time we were drinkin'...?" |

| Comments: | Great web site, it brought back a lot of memories from my childhood. Including the houses that I use to live in my elementary school and the NCO club my mother and uncle use to work in. It is sad that so many former Security Group bases are closing almost all the bases that my father served on are now close, Boy does that make me feel safe. NOT.Anyways the site is great and hope to visit it often |
