If anyone would be kind enough to email me one, I would really appreciate it. They were born in 1973 and 1974, but I doubt that it changed much. I have looked online, but with no luck. Thanks so much. |

| Comments: | Hi Folks, Lots of good things are happening in and around Edzell these days.... the main street has been sold (well it seems like it) and will be re-developed, with the northern hotel being re-used. Amigos was taken over and was crap for a while.. now owened by a chain of sports bars. The food is excellent and the Audio visual gear if fab. I thought I'd sign in again since every time I go up to Auchenblae, I think of you guys... I was in that wee place twice recently. I know many US personnel chose to live there. I work as a IT Field Service Engineer for Aberdeenshire Council Schools dept... so I do the rounds of Laurencekirk, Marykirk, Auchenblae, Bervie, all places south of the river Dee. There are many folks who sign the Edzell Connection guestbook who talk about how great the area up here is. My story is that today, after working in Inverbervie School, I went down the beach in bervie, sat on the pebble beach, eating my lunch and a yearling seal popped up in front of me, 10 Feet away. I nearly convince it to have a tomato... it did think about it.. honest !! What job gives you that ? What a great place to live and work. It was just me, on my own, smelling the salty sea air again. Fantastic. It sums up why I still love to live and work in the North East of Scotland. For info, the Royal Navy CTs had a re-union recently. The pictures and latest messages can be viewed at : http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Squirrelshack/ Take care and See you all at the next Edzell Re-union... whenever that is. |

We were married at the base chapel Dec 79 will celebrate our 25th anniversary this year. We will always remember Eric Walker and Mary Walker helping us get our first place to live and posting our wedding bonds out in town. Our oldest daughter Jennifer was born in Dundee. We just retired in Aug 2003 after 28 years and a MGySgt and live in the Sierra Nevada Foothills in northern California, probably because it reminds us of Scotland. |

| Comments: | Hi all. Love signing any guestbook dealing with Edzell. I was stationed with the Marines there from '74 to '76. Got a 15 month visa to stay in the country afterwards, and finally went home flat broke in '77. I still miss the place after 27 years. It was a paradise and I'd do it all over again if I could. Hope somebody comes by your site that may remember me. Thanks!!!! |

| Comments: | It has been some time since I've logged on. As luck would have it, I was not into genealogy while I was stationed at Edzell from March 1987-May 1990 in Classic Wizard. Turns out that my surname is from there, believe near Edinbourgh (Sandilands) I teach Navy JROTC now in Kentucky and I was asked the other day by some students as they prepare for a panel discussion what my favorite place was - without a moments hesitation, I told them of Edzell Scotland. I gave them plenty of examples, but most of all, how we were treated there by the locals and the simplicity of living there. The mission was not simple, but living there was. It remains to this day my favorite place to have lived outside the US. I am saddened that the base is now closed, it was/is a remarable place. The people that I met there and the beauty of the place made an indelible mark for me. We had good friends, good work, some funny things happened and some sad things, but through it all, it remains a memory that when I think of it, I smile! | Comments: | It has been a while since I have signed the guest book, so I thought now would be as good a time as any to include an update. Stationed at Edzell from Nov 93 - Mar 96. Went from Edzell to the USS KINKAID (DD 965), then the Naval Postgraduate School (MSEE degree), then to NIWA in Washington, DC. I just detached from NIWA and we are on our way to Japan. "We" includes the love of my life - my wife Tracy (married in 1998), son Brandon (2000), and son Alex (2002). I put on LCDR in the summer of 2002 (no, seriously) and am off to the CRC job at COMCARGRU 5 aboard the USS KITTY HAWK. This will be my first overseas tour since Edzell, and I can't imagine that it will measure up. At Edzell I was the last 32 Division Officer and then the ZWC III OWO. Lived on Lunan Bay at Red Castle for a year, then at Kinnaird Castle. Served as the Tug Team OIC and Number 7, then 5, on the rope. I'd love to summarize my time at Edzell in a few punchy sentences that could somehow capture the experience, but that is simply impossible. I sometimes believe I am still in the Navy as part of a vain quest to match that tour. I would have given anything to have been at the 2002 reunion but Alex was born 18 days later so you do the math and figure the odds of approval for my kitchen pass. I welcome email from any Edzell shipmates. Godspeed all. |

| Comments: | Many years have passed since I signed the guestbook so I suppose it's update time. We were stationed in Edzell from 1993-1996 and were loath to leave as I'm an Edinburgh lass myself. Still, we had a good tour at Winter Harbor, Maine until 1999 when we moved to Hawaii for our final Navy tour. Steve worked in 'The Tunnel' at NSGA Kunia until he retired in February 2003. Had house prices been more realistic we'd have stayed put on Oahu. Unfortunately, jobs do not seem to pay the money one would require to actually live there so we moved to Southern Maryland where Steve works for BAE Systems and I for Calvert County Board of Education. We'll be here for the forseeable future. The kids are well, Catriona is 16 and remembers her teachers Ms Andrews, Ms Robinette and Mr Long at W.F.Halsey Elementary. Nicholas was only 4 when we left but he does remember winning $125 on the slot machine at the Hideaway club ... don't tell anyone! I often think of Fiona Wojyk but I can't find hide nor hair of her. She was a Brechin lass but I can't remember her maiden name. The last I heard was that she was in Georgia doing something to the water! Anyway, it would be lovely to hear from anyone who remembers us. |

| Comments: | I was a Marine radiotelegrapher (2621) at Edzell from 1983 to 1985. I worked in the basement, I think they called it 31 division... I'm not sure now! I was known as the "Morse Monger" and was the fastest CW operator on the base at the time. Got my U.S. Navy Silver CW Certification (32 GPM) officially before leaving Edzell. The people I remember are Rich Nichols, Ernie Feigler, Lance Adair (fantastic CW man), Tim Gordon, Greg Wisnewski, Alan Thompson, and WM's Denice Church, Sue Bellis, Debbie Narvett, and cute little Diana Cooper! I also remember some of the Marine officers who couldn't handle me - like old Larry Lewis and Steve Moline! I wonder what happened to those guys... probably retired by now! Hey, I'll be fair and say MY side of the problem is that I was first and foremost a RADIOTELEGRAPHER and NOT a Marine! As you know, "they" don't like that! The locals I remember are 1)Colin Craig, the guy that lived in a cottage outside of Edzell and fooled with cars to make extra money. I used to bring my old 1971 Jag to him to keep it running cheap. 2) The old barber in town who used a straight razor on everyone's neck with NO water and NO shaving cream. Can you say "S-C-R-A-T-C-H!!!" 3) Rich Nichols future mother-in-law who worked on base and was the nicest lady you'd ever want to meet. 4) The Royal Navy Chief who worked in Morse division. I forget his name but he used to think I was NUTS because I bought Tennant's lager cans with the pretty girls on them, let HIM drink them all and then I mailed the empty cans back to the States. (I don't like to drink.) 5) The rip-off car mechanic at "Sparks Garage" and the pretty red-head that used to work there. Edzell was (and probably still is) a beautiful place. I never made it back, probably never will. Things at Company "B" changed right before I left. Old friends had shipped out, new people came in and they were "different." Not bad, just different. Then it was my time to go, and I was discharged from the Marine Corps in December of 1985. For those who remember me, my morse days did NOT end with Edzell. I went on to become a Merchant Marine Radio Officer, sending and receiving routine, urgent and yes, even distress messages the WORLD OVER. February 1999 saw the end of 500 kc/s and morse on ships but I can STILL copy 35 GPM on a good day. THE MORSE MONGER LIVES. What is amazing to me is that it's all gone. That big, beautiful circular antenna with all it's elements - and all the things we took so seriously at work are now obsolete technology. Remember me? Shoot me an e-mail, I'll be happy to respond! |

| Comments: | I was there from 6/85 - 9/95. I was a contractor in the NAVELEX shop in bldg 300. During the 10 yrs I was there, my wife, Kim, & I had 4 kids. I think my wife was pregnant the whole time between the summer of '87 & 4/93. I spent a lot of my time shooting pool in the club, and was a country music DJ the last two years I was there. I had a great time and wish I was still there. |

| Comments: | Updating my e-mail address. I love Scotland. I was a young married woman in 1967 when I lived first on High St in Montrose and then in Inverbervie. Went back to Scotland a couple years ago and stayed in Edzell and love visiting....ready to go back again. I made lots of wonderful friends that I continue to keep in touch but missing some, Pat and Waylon Goodman, Bart & Isabell Sjrogen ( a Montrose local girl). Doune House in Eczell is a wonderful B&B. Femmie and John are wonderful hosts. |

| Comments: | My year stationed at RAF Edzell was a truly memoriable one. I enjoyed the people, the work (really), the locals were wonderful, and I fell in love daily with the Scottish girls. I lost several roommates to marriage during that year. I enjoyed the bun lady, the stitch lady, the barber, the inspections, the snow, the Friday night dances at the EM Club, the movies, the Tally-Ho; stacking thrupnees and playing darts. Traveling throught the UK and Europe, wish I had done more. I was on the base honor guard, I carried the British flag. I took part in all the sports: flag football, softball, basketball, volleyball, etc. The highest I got on the golf ladder was 9th, I think. I played all the courses in the area and really enjoyed interacting with the locals. I recently re-aquainted with Norman Marocco (retired CTC) via the net. He and I attended the annual military conference of Catholic men in Germany together in '67. I passed the CT2 test twice that year, but wouldn't extend to get it. The CO made me a very generous offer to re-up, but I returned home to LA, went to work for Texaco's La. Refinery in '68, married my bride of 30 years,Iva, in '73, and our son Tate was born in '78. I retired after 34 years on Jan.1,2002 and Iva joined me 5 months later. We enjoy our friends and family, do volunteer work, travel, etc. If you recongnize me, I would like to hear from you. Two more sites you may want to go look at are: http://www.anzwers.org/free/navyscpo/index.html and http://www.usncva.org/ God bless, Randy! |

| Comments: | I have no connection to the forces at the Edzell base, but just read all the emails to the site. I just returned from there and spent a week at the Glenesk Hotel. We bought a place in Little Brechin 4 years ago (Ashburn) and our gardner (local) and friend Jim Crabb from Brechin tells me all about the wonderful times spent with all you guys and the parties he said were the best. I am from Glasgow living in Texas, husband from Dundee, but we hope to retire to our home in Little Brechin within the next 3 years. Edzell is quiet today, but still as beautiful, these buildings will be standing long after we are gone. The trees are changing to a wonderful golden brown, and the air is just as crisp and fresh as all of you remember. |

| Comments: | Just checking back in. This is a great site and reading the various comments, brings back fond memories. I was stationed there just after a tour in San Vito, Italy. My wife and I first lived in Brechin, but then moved to "Base Housing" in Bervie. We loved it there. I remember that the Commanding Officer was Capt Joslin and the XO was Cdr/Capt Dehn. I need to look thru my old papers to see any other names. I was assigned to Maintenance Dept. and was on duty the night the winds took down part of the Array. Still looking for any of the Bervie people from 67 to 68, or any of the Maintenance personal from my section. After my active duty time, I joined the Reserves and did get one more period (two weeks) in Edzell, in the late 70's or early 80's. The hardest thing that I have found in these sites is that both Edzell and San Vito are History as NSGA bases. Young CT's will miss out on this excellent duty station. |

| Comments: | Great Site! Was stationed in Edzell Mar79-Oct81. Worked in DF section 4 with Chris Vertin; Rick Biederstadt; Sue Montelius; Randy Tomlin; and many more I'd like to mention but can't go on forever. Best darn tour for me EVER and the memories of the people I've met, both Scots and my fellow shipmates, will follow me to the grave as the most enjoyable and memorable years of my life. I was a dart fanatic (as many of us were) and even today every time I look at a set it can only remind me of the place in my heart I loved playing the game the most. I'm a retired CTRC and living in Pcola--like so many of our comrades. Work a contracting job with a company nobody's ever heard of at the Navy College Center at Saufly Field and enjoying fishin in that great blue wonderful Fish Hatchery of the Golden Gulf Coast (ahh I'm in heaven)...Thanks to this site I have found long lost companions and have managed to strike up relationhips with old friends again that have always held a special place in my soul...My hats off! to whomever inititated the site and perhaps if I continue to explore I'll find that answer out..just wanted to sign the book first..Cheers!!!! |

| Comments: | Just acknowledging the year that's past since the reunion last August. I was with Co B from Dec 70 thru Dec 73. Went Tad to Co I at Nicosia, 2nd RadBn at LaJeune, and Army Security Agency at Rothwesten Army Base near Kassel Germany. Great times. Got out as soon as the Corps would let me, went to college and law school. Went into the Navy in 1981 as a Direct Commission JAG and was stationed at Subic NLSO and San Miguel as the legal officer. (That'll be hard for some close shipmates to believe.) Retired from the Navy reserves as a Cdr about 8 years ago. Don't blink your eyes or you'll miss some of this life. The Reunion was wonderful and memories kept and keep flooding back. Anyone with any sources for Co B keepsakes let me know. I just bought an NCVA NSGA Edzell ballcap from the NCVA. Would love to have something commemorating Co B. Chuck Ford |

| Comments: | I was a "T" brancher stationed in Edzell all of 1967. It had and still holds a special place in my memories. The people on base, the locals, the countryside, the golf courses, the "Barrell Club" in Montrose, the ladies who cooked for us on base (who every morning trie to teach me some galic), the bun lady, the semestress lady, the barber ladies in Montrose, and the endless supply of beautiful, sweet, young ladies of Scotland. I fell in love daily, sometimes twice. I lost several roommates that year who married locals. I probably would have married one myself, but it was impossible for me to pick just one. Base activities I was active in were: Taught cathecism classes, Catholic church, football, basketball, softball, volleyball, Friday night dances at the EM club, and the base honor guard (I carried the British flag). I was sorry to learn the base closed. I almost made it back up to Edzell on a vacation I made in 1989, but ran out of time. Did have time to play the old course at St. Andrews once more. That's as far north as we got. If you recognize my name or were stationed in Edzell during this time period, 1967, email me, we'll talk. Cheers! Ta Ra! |

| Comments: | After over 30 years I returned to Edzell and while the empty base is a heartbreaker, the countryside is still as I remember it. Stationed from 70 - 72 in the admin office (CTA). My wife and I stayed in Brechin at a bed and breakfast run by the wife of the last RAF Commander of Edzell and it is a really great place (Liscara Bed and Breakfast on Castle St). Went to the Stables and had not only drinks (as in the early 70's) but also some very excellent meals at great prices. Then did the tour, Aberdeen, Elgin, Isle of Skye, Ft. William, Sterling, Edinburgh and then on to England. Great return trip for me and a great 1st trip for my wife. We also got the chance to meet up with Trudy who was the switchboard operator of the base for many years and between her and Mike Hudson (the RAF Commander) was able to piece together some of what happened over the last 30 years. Great trip, recommend it to anyone who has been there and hope to do again Cherrio |

| Comments: | Been awhile since I checked in so thought I would update my email. As luck or destiny would have it I am back to Waco, Texas and working at the community college I graduated from in 1967 (first graduating class), McLennan Community College. Our mascot is the Highlander. My wife, Lesley, from Brechin now works there as well. At least one real Highlander works there, although we do have 3 international students here on golf scholarships. Would you have expected differently! I moved back to Texas to help care for aging parents. I was in Edzell as a boot Chief from 1978-1982 in the Comms Dept, back again as a CTOCS from 1988-1991 (Comms again) and lastly as a CTOCM from 1995-1997. Last tour we had too many Master Chiefs so I had a great year with the SeaBees and then some time as Command Training during closure. I guess it rubbed off; those of you who knew my sons, Steve and Derek, can now rest eaasy knowing they are protecting you. Ha! Seriously, I am proud of both, Steve is now an ET1 with 11 years in and Derek is a SeaBee, EO3, with just over 2 years in. My 2 girls, Keima and Brittany, are still in school. Keima will graduate college in a year or so to be a teacher and Britts graduates high school next year. All the kids say they would love to hear from some other Navy brats who knew them. We all really hated to see Edzell close, it was a second home. Although we are getting back about once a year. Will be back in April 2004 for a good old Scottish wedding. Can't wait to do a Gay Gordon or Strip the Willow and have a few nips. Look forward to seeing old friends and also hearing from some as well. |

| Comments: | I stumbled upon this site by accident while searching for Teresa "Tree" Andros. I was stationed in Edzell from 1974-1976. It's hard to describe the flood of memories that are rushing through my mind while reading some of the comments. RAF Edzell was an absolute wonderful experience with which I draw from today whenever a smile or two is needed. I miss those times dearly. Many friendships were established, although most all are dormant today. Clark Learch, Skip Hopkins, Darryl Grimes, Jake, and many, many more. Many whose faces I can see, but their names elude me. It is the place where I developed my taste for Scotch, learned the fine art of throwing darts, and fell in love with the wonderful country and people and of course Tree Andros and a few other ladies, both American and Scottish. God bless all who hold RAF Edzell in their hearts. |

I would love to hear from anyone who remembers me. I'm sure I'll remember you. |

| Comments: | Hi It,s Trudy,. Thanks folks for the E-mails, seems I made a boo-boo with my address, this should be OK this time, lets just say I was having a senior moment. I,ve been retired now for almost 17 years, where does the time go? Bob, my husband, died the year before I retired.Stayed on at work for another year it kept me busy.Since retiring there has been lots to keep me occupied. I know that you will all remember Brechin and its folks as -mostly- friendly so it is not too hard to find things to do. A good bit of my time is taken up with voluntary work. Did quite a bit of driving for the ambulance Car Service. That was good. Met lots of new people and enjoyed the chatter while driving them to and from ther destinations.Hope to hear from some of you soon |

| Comments: | What a delight to see Trudy Stewart's message on the recent Dreambook. How can any of us forget the long nights sitting in that tiny room off the quarterdeck answering (or at least trying to answer) the calls to Edzell 431. My first tour as a young CTA3 was in 1966-1967 – first time I had the switchboard duty, I must have lost at least half the calls coming to the base. The following week Mrs. Stewart had to spend about an hour teaching me the ins and outs of a manual telephone switch. Fortunately, I came back as an Ensign in 1977 and spent that year as the Personnel Officer. By that time Mrs Stewart was longer working the switchboard and had, if I recall correctly, taken over from Mrs. Campbell (did she have a first name???? Everyone just called her Mrs. Campbell) as the keeper of access to the Captain’s office. |

| Comments: | It has been some time since signing in and after reading the glorious comments about Edzell, I felt I must reply. Do you remember Mrs. Campbell, Captain's Secretary, Mr. Campbell, Accountant in Public Works, Mrs. Kidd, Secretary, Public Works, Willy and Bert, two great carpenters in Public Works. What about Fire Chief Griffin, Chief Samson, who ran the mess hall, Chaplain Kinlaw. Captain Everson and Captain Joslin, Lcdr. Lowery ( now retired as Captain ), Dr. Esposito, the dentist. I and my family spent over four years at Edzell. It was great and sometimes wish I had stayed there. Edzell 431 (Trudy) will remember my call to the the electrical wholsales, Wood and Cairn in Dundee, Mr. Craigie. Wonderful memories. Do you remember the Fourth of July Picnic where all the local people were invited. Approximately 10,000 burgers were given away. Time goes on, best of luck to everyone who has been stationed at Edzell. If you remember me, drop a note some time. Cheers, Pat |

| Comments: | Checking in after a long absence. Sorry couldn't make the reunion--wanted to, but things worked out differently. Was at Edzell from 1978-1981; generally had a great time. It was certainly the most memorable of my duty stations. I was honored to work with superb Marines and sailors in my watch section. I was equally honored to have met and worked with so many fine adults and youth with BSA Troop 585. Now in Richmond, VA. If you're in the area, let me know. You're always welcome here. |

| Comments: | Making my annual log entry. Was an Radioman at Edzell 1966-68 and again 1974-78 attached to SPECOMM. As everyone has already attested here, one of the finest duty stations around. Looks like a mini-Edzell reunion this summer (see entries below). My wife (Val) and I will be making our semi-annual trip to Scotland visiting Dundee and surrounding areas with our oldest granddaughter from 1-15 July. |

| Comments: | This is for Trudy Stewart, I used to be one of the men who relived you for lunch breaks back in 70-72. My best memories though are that both you and Mrs Stewart (Capt Thomas's secretary) didn't drink, so Ron Frayo and I would escort the two of you over to give blood and thereby get two shots of brandy instead of one. Had a great time in Scotland and after over 30 years will be returning, my wife and I will be there from May 28 - June 5 of this year. |

| Comments: | Tennent's Lager that I savor, Rising bubbles filled with flavor Caress my lips. No woman's kiss Can spin my brain and bring such bliss.. A devil's liquid, some have named it. For countless crimes some have blamed it. They may be right but lest I think it, I'll buy one more and begin to drink it.. One more it is, and that makes twenty.. Could it be I've had too many? Tennent's, my love, you've gone too far... I bow my head to the wooden bar And dream my dreams, but not o' lasses., Of Tennent's Lager and empty glasses.. Lovingly penned on a Tennent's notepad in the old cocktail lounge at the Cornerhouse hotel, Montrose in 1968. Bless all those who know that Scotland is not merely a land and its people but a beauty that goes to the depths of the soul. |

| Comments: | This is for Trudy Stewart. I am one of your 'phone boys' from 1970-74. I need you whole email address since the one you left does not have the whole address. I tell people all the time about you and the manual switchboard that I use to operate (and sometimes repaired). Do you remember the day I fixed the autovon circuits to London? and Captain Martin and Commander Yoder came out of their offices to ask why it started working reliably. Probably not, but they sure remembered my name after that. I am really interested in what you have been up to since then. Anyone else remember those days? |

| Comments: | Let's try this again. I was the last posting in the previous guestbook. It was about a Brat Reunion. It will be in Atlanta in July 2004 and is being hosted by an organization called Overseas Brats. I think this would be the perfect time for the "brats" to get together. Check out their web site for all the details and drop me a line if you are interested. If you aren't a brat and know a brat, please pass this on to them. |
