Comments:This might be complicated... I have an address OTRS 32 Raf Edzell as my father's address in Scotland. I know he was in the Navy, I am sure that this means he was stationed in Edzell. His name was Michael G. Bennett (he passed when I was 10). I was born in Dundee, Scotland 14 February, 1981. I have my mother's name as Diana Lynn Bennett, although I know nothing of her circumstances and/or whereabouts. I'm looking for someone who knew of either my father or mother, or had been stationed in Edzell around 1980-1981 time period.

I was born in Dundee in March of 1979 and was baptized on base. I'm having problems finding my baptismal certificate and am wondering if anyone knew who the chaplain was at that time or how I would go about getting this record? If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it. My father is Forrest Camp and now also currently resides in Tulsa.

Jennifer Drake, her brother Ryan and their parents Bruce and Jean were always very nice to me and always made me feel very welcome. Jenny, you will always have a special place in my heart. I would also like to say thanks to everyone I met, everyone was always nice and helpfull and so full of fun (especially in the bar, ive never been that drunk again!) You all made it a very special place, and a very special time for me, one I will never forget. Many, many thanks.

Comments:Many memories come to mind when thinking of Edzell. I think that was probably the absolute best duty station the U.S. Navy ever had. I especially remember the hunting and fishing while there. It paid to get to know the Scots. I don't think I ever met one that wasn't friendly and wouldn't hesitate to do all he could for you. I enjoyed many days in the heather with my shotgun because I cultivated friendships with them. One of these days, I hope to return to Edzell and see the changes of the last thirty years. I made CTMC while there and had Monty Montcalm, Mike Ray, Don Wood, Bob Sinohui, and a lot of others that delighted in my short misery period of my initiation. I am sorry to see that Edzell is closed and allowed to deterioate as it is. I guess Scotland and England have OLD stuff that counts more than Edzell which is still young by their standards.

Anybody out there remember an American at the base in the 60's or early 70's who went by the name of "Spinny" and was an outstanding guitarist? An acquaintance of mine asked about this fellow and I thought I would at least post here and see if anyone might know who he was and what became of him. Apparently, "Spinny" was amazing on the guitar and some folks in Scotland thought he might have made a career in music after the Navy. Please email me if you have any idea who Spinny was. Thanks!

Dustin Lambert (Dustbuster), whom I met and married there, was stationed there from 1988 - 1991, he worked in the Wizard division. I was a CTT and was at Edzell from 1989 - 1991. I hung out with my best friend, Patti Stilson. We still keep in touch. We'd love to hear from anyone who was there at the same time...Ed Thomas, Jim McMenamin, Ross Hill, Mike Kaspowitz, Julie Duffy, Karen (can't remember last name, sorry), Melissa Bergeron, so many more. We are doing great...out in '93. We live in Villa Rica, GA (40 mi west of ATL). Dustin runs one of the two restaurants that our family owns, Shuckers Seafood Grill. I've been teaching elementary school since 2001. We have a 14 yr old - Nick, and a 10 yr old - Jake. We are planning to visit Scotland soon. Does anyone have any information about possible reunions, either here or there? If so, please forward.

Comments:I'm happy to announce that I've finished converting the decades thick Company B photo album to a single DVD. It took well over 300 hours but I'm hoping some people can stroll down memory lane because of it. I'm no longer the PAO or historian for Company B but I told him to standby for many e mails from people requesting them. To keep costs to an absolute minimum, I've recommended they only charge for cost of the DVD and postage. The time I took to convert it to soft copy is just something I wanted to do. Please e mail me at the address above and I will put you in contact with the current Co B PAO. Sorry it took so long. Also, there's no slideshow software in the DVD, just photos sorted by decade and year. Any submission you would like added please send to me with as much detail as you can provide and I'll see that it gets entered into the archives.

Comments:Reading everyone's comments brought back so many memories. I remember many of you who were stationed there when I was. There was no place quite like Edzell. It was beautiful! The people were great too! Ran across a few people over the years who were stationed there with me and I also see names of people I knew from other duty stations who eventually made their way to Edzell (it was somewhere EVERYONE wanted to go)! Too bad they closed it. They were such good times. I'm planning on getting there someday again. If anyone remembers me, please contact me - I'd love to hear from you!

Stay in touch with about 10 from the era but would love to hear from more. Altho it's been more than 30 years, that was a great time in my life and Scotland is fondly remembered. Took my wife back for the reunion several years ago and had a great time seeing the base but didn't know too many of the people. From my time period, the navy dentist was the only one I knew. Anyway, happy holidays to everyone on the Edzell site. Later sobered up and got out of the Marine Corps, went to law school, got drunk again and took a commission in the Navy JAG corps and went to Subic and San Miguel. Retired as a commander in the reserves 10 years ago. Time sure flys. Practice law in St. Louis with my wife of 30 years and 5 kids scattered hither and yon. Hope to hear from you if the name rings a bell. Chuck Ford

Comments:Hi everyone. Haven't signed in in a while. Was stationed at Edzell from Sept.'67 to Nov.'68. Left there as CTO3 and made 2nd Class PO before discharge in '71. Had to be one of the greatest times in all my life. Played guitar with Mike Rauen on base and sometimes at The Corner House pub. Went back to Scotland with my wife Kathy in 1981. Couldn't get on the base, but we "tooled" around Scotland and England for 17 days with a rented car and just stayed at bed and breakfasts. We had a great time. Think about the "old days" often. Just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah! A great holiday to all!! P.S. Still playing music, but I've switched over to keyboards and vocals.

Had Del Orman as supervisor and was in the section that included Jim Briles, Bill Jennings, Bob Johnston, and Larry Brinks. I was told that if a local lass and I dated for more than a month, and she took the time to knit me a sweater for a special occasion, that matrimony was definitely on the horizon. The men on the base who wore hand-knitted sweaters did end up marrying their lady friends. I am the only person of that era who came back with two beautiful hand-knitted sweaters and no bride, and no tears shed by anyone.

Comments:This is an update of my email address since I last signed in 2 years ago. I was in Edzell from 1970-72 working DF. A few too many rum and cokes have dulled my memory of details, but the memories I have are warm and fuzzy. When I left Pensacola for Edzell, a Chief warned us the 3 out of 4 of us would be married before we got out of Scotland. Well, I barely got out single (Miss you Elaine). My good friend and roommate Doug Dow married a lovely lass he affectionately calls "Dotty". Howard Rawlings died, unfortunately, in an automobile accident and Pat Dooling shipped out early (He saw marriage coming I think, haha). I found Doug and Pat 30 years later and keep in touch with them. I'm single again and doing well with a new career as software engineer working on contract with the Navy at Point Loma in San Diego. I work with a lot of ex-OSes and CTs. I'm sort of a legend because of my Edzell duty (also because of my age, haha). Keep in touch.

Worked with a lot of great people - Brian Murphy, Bill Davison, Jeff Hershiser, AJ Gray, Rafael Camacho to name a few (sorry about any mis-spelling of times). I have returned to the UK and revisited the base in August 2004. It was a disgrace to see what they have done to the place on the ops side. Nice to see that they have allowed people to buy the houses and make it nice. For the most part, it was like seeing a ghost town. Have pics for anyone interested (well a few due to being asked to leave by the current owners - long story).

Comments:The Company B history photo album conversion to CD/DVD is going smoothly. Slow, but smoothly. I'm currently working on the year 1990 and don't think it will take much more than a month to have all images scanned and on Disc. I've received a couple of contributions from former Marines stationed there during various times but most of the photos are still just ones in the photo album. Keep in mind this 30"x30" album now weighs close to 30 pounds. All photos contributed will remain the property of the photographer and a credit line will be given. With the units permission I will see if these can be sold at a cost only to cover production and mailing if anyone is interested. Thanks in advance if anyone sends me photos.

Comments:Wow, talk about the memories that come back! I lived in Edzell from 1983-1986, I spent (at least partially) grades K-3 at W.F. Halsey School. I lived with my father Arturo, mother Priscilla, and brother Arturo Jr. on 45 Halsey Drive. I still remember, with great fondness, Ms. Hurlburt, Ms. Senecal, Loch Wee and those swans, strawberry picking, Robert Burns Day, and haggis (and of course much more)!! Any of my former classmates would be about 28 years old now (2005), so please contact me. I moved to San Jose, CA in the 3rd grade and have always regretted not at least keeping in touch with Ms. Hurlburt (1st and 3rd grade teacher). I am now a PhD student in Entomology at the University of Ilinois at Urbana Champaign.

Comments:I want to remember everthing about Edzell, but alas, I cannot. The things I can remember are amazing, and the pictures I have are just the same. I met and married Cindy, who was a HM3 there at Medical. I was a CTO2 when I left, out of 50 dept (tech control) Still married, with 3 kids. Played flag football at the base of the "Dinosaur Cage". Bowled at the 4 lane bowling alley during the "Off the Eve Leagues" (50 cent beers outta the beer machine? Ohhhh) Lost miserably playing darts, and pool. Traveled the countryside in old cars, visiting friends in the Highlands. Drank "Pigs Snout" whiskey on the shores of Loch Ness! Wondered why we had to pay for a TV License for 3 channels! (20 quid) Amazing suite parties. Watched the Enlisted club rebuilt in 85/86 (where we had our reception!) Watched Kristina and the Waves play at the club before they made it big! The Blue Door was a site to behold! And for those who remember, the most INfamous football game in base history! Marines and Sailors playing a "friendly" game of tackle football after a long party at Loch Wee! Broken ribs, pulled hamstrings, busted teeth, cracked collerbones, blown knees, and too many scraps, cuts, and sprains to count! CO at the time was not happy! Funny thing is, it was a friendly game, and we became closer because of it! TA Jero!

Comments:Signing into this new guest book. It's been a long, long time since I was stationed at Edzell and going out on every DIRSUP run made then (1979-1981). I've started a small company here in Virginia that specializes in technical writing and editing, James River Technical Communications LLC (http://www.jrtcllc.com) and am active building and maintaining public hiking trails in Shenandoah National Park and the George Washinton National Forest. If anyone remembers, contact me! I'm very interested in finding the Dental Tech, Mike Best, who worked with me in Troop 585, and I'd like to reconnect with shipmates and former Scouts, alike. Cheers!

Comments:I continue to visit the site and am excited to read about so many people I remember. I often feel as though the tour itself was done inside of a tornado because of the smells, sights, and sounds that still resonante within my brain and come out at various times when I think I see something I remember. I still remember the countryside with a special warmth and the local bars and ciders in an even warmer way. Played ball with the base team during both of my years and wonder if I liked the basketball or the socializing more. I remember the times and the team with fond memories. I am currently into my sixth year of teaching young children (kindergarten and lower) and love every minute of it. I married a wonderful lady with two beautiful boys and we have two more boys together. I hope to someday get over to the isles and bring the family with me. It was so special and only those who experienced it can fully appreciate it. Thanks for the wonderful forum Dale and congratulations on your relationship.
