LONDON (AP) -- Scotland's first parliament in 300 years will meet for the first time on May 12 and be officially inaugurated by Queen Elizabeth II on July 1, the government has announced. At their first meeting in Edinburgh, the 129 members of the new parliament elected on May 6 will elect a presiding officer, who will act as speaker, and a deputy presiding officer, according to a government schedule announced in the House of Commons Tuesday. They will gather in temporary premises until a new building is completed in 2001. Scots voted overwhelmingly in September for their own parliament, the first since Scotland joined with England in 1707. The vote was Britain's biggest constitutional shake-up since Irish independence in 1922. When the parliament opens, Scotland's nearly 4 million voters -- just under 10 percent of the British electorate -- will take control of most domestic affairs, including health, transport and education. Under the new system, Scotland will stay within the United Kingdom with England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and remain subject to the queen. Wales will hold its own elections on May 6 for its autonomous parliament.

Hello, We received some updated info on the items below. When a former Edzellite went TAD awhile back she gaves us some info. Well here is the updated info on the small blip article below.
The items concerning the Hotels and the Tweed shop are inaccurate. In fact, The Panmure Hotel has re-opened as a Hotel. The Central is being redeveloped to create an Old Folks Home. The Glenesk is still very much a functioning Hotel. The Tweed Shop also is still open.

CTMC Patty Hinrichs visited Edzell during a TAD in London and she found that All the USA style housing had been bulldozed, only the british style houses (front 1/2 of housing) was there. The MODP were still manning the front gate but the base was overgrown. In the town of Edzell most if not all the hotels had closed. The tweed shop had closed but the golf course was still opened. This info is brought to us by our friend, CTM1 Diana Chernicky
